Seek Wisdom

Wisdom is a key principle to live, and the book of Proverbs is a treasure of profound, godly insights that give us a clear picture of how to live life successfully. We all need the wisdom to live as a follower of Jesus.

A while ago, I watched a show that interviewed a treasure hunter who discovered a shipwreck carrying an estimated $2 million dollar load of artifacts and precious metals. The treasure hunter explained his passion to go and get the treasurers, yet he lacked funding. It took a lot of effort, resources, equipment, and time to retrieve the find—and it all summed up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If men will invest that much into retrieving silver and gold, how much more should we invest time and effort into retrieving the wisdom of Heaven, which is more valuable!

King Solomon writes, “How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver” (Proverbs 16:16) Now, this was written by a king who was one of the richest kings in all of history. The Bible says that King Solomon was brought more than 25 tons of gold annually (1 Kings 10:14). Todays, that is around £1.5 billion a year. I think Solomon had a good idea of how good gold was, and for him to say that wisdom is still better, is an incredible statement.

Let me say that seeking after God’s wisdom found in God’s Word is far more valuable than any other goal. People forget that, once you gain wisdom; then gold, silver, and success will naturally follow after you (Read 1 Kings 3). So don’t waste all your time chasing the lesser things. Chase the principal thing.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her” (Proverbs 4:7-8).
